Rancher, cowboy and family man, Todd McCartney, manages the family’s
ranching operation alongside his wife, Marianne, and their 5 hardworking kids.
Located in the rugged rangeland near Throckmorton, Texas, their exceptional cow
herd is Red Angus based and utilizes industry leading bulls from the historic R.A.
Brown Ranch where Marianne was raised. In addition, the McCartneys’ ranch
horse breeding and training program keeps them all very well mounted. Todd
sees to it that the day-to-day ranch work stays close to western heritage and
tradition, yet still implements cutting edge management practices that keep the
outfit “punchy and progressive… but still profitable.”
Despite the sunrise to dark:30 duties on the ranch, Todd cracks out a few times a
year to address national audiences, either in person or on-camera, to share the
techniques and benefits of effective stockmanship, good stewardship and the
western way of life.
Naturally, Greeley Hat Works fits Todd’s life and his head – perfectly. As an
official ambassador for Greely Hat Works, Todd explained it this way, “I wear a
beaver lid every day. Every. Day. I don’t own a cap. My hat is a tool, yet it’s part
of me, it’s an expression of who I am. It represents much of my life, my work and
my heritage. Naturally, I need a good’n. A really good’n. I own a couple of
Greeley’s 100% beavers and they out-last, out-perform, and out-everything any lid
I have ever owned. Period. No foolin’. And just like good ranch horses, these
“Trent Johnsons” get better every day you work ‘em. And the more you work ‘em,
the better they look! I’m telling you, when you pull one of these Greeleys down on
your noggin, you know you’re wearing something special. And… so does everyone
