Beef Sticks for Backpacks

Greeley Hat Works kicks off a month long campaign to raise money for Beef Sticks for Backpacks.

No one wants to see children go hungry and in Colorado alone there are over 400,000 food insecure children. These children rely on their school meals for often what is their only source of food. Local food banks work diligently each week to send home meals to children in need. These backpack programs help to feed children through the weekend when they do not have school meals to rely on. Often the food provided is heavy in starches and lacks protein. This is where Beef Sticks for Backpacks stepped in.

Beef Sticks for Backpacks was created specifically with these children in mind. To help provide Colorado kids with a protein dense, nutritious snack during the weekends. They work with local food banks to distribute their beef sticks, their goal is for every child experiencing food insecurity to go home with two sticks each week.

Tim Costello, Dr. Bob Delmore, and Kristen Sublette touring the Global Food Innovations Center at Colorado State University where Beef Sticks for Backpacks is made.

Tim Costello, Front of House Manager and myself (Kristen Sublette, Social Media Content Creator) went to the Colorado State University (CSU) Global Food Innovations Center to see how these beef sticks are processed and packaged. Doctor Bob Delmore of CSU oversees the processing of Beef Sticks for Backpacks, he leads a team of students that make every single beef stick that Beef Sticks for Backpacks distributes. This gives students at CSU a unique opportunity to learn more about processing and packaging food.

Beef Sticks for Backpacks works very hard to keep the costs of their products as low as possible. It is through their efforts they have received equipment donations, the use of the CSU Gloval Food Innovations Center, and awesome volunteers to help make each beef stick. For every $1.00 donated, Beef Sticks for Backpacks is able to produce two beef sticks for children in need in the community.

Our goal at Greeley Hat Works is to feed 10,000 children, which means we raising $5,000 for Beef Sticks for Backpacks. Join us in helping to feed hungry children by Donating Now.
