Wanting to know the status of your hat order? Feel free to contact us.
Due to a lack of available materials a majority of our hat orders cannot be filled at this current time. We are working hard to fulfill each and every hat order in the order we have received them, once we have the supplies in hand. From all of us at Greeley Hat Works, we sincerely apologize for the delay in hat production.
An email will be sent when your hat enters production and again when it has shipped out of our store in Colorado. Tracking info will be included when your hat is fully completed.
The absolute best way to find out what your hat size is, is to come in to our store fore the Greeley Experience. Greeley Hat Works creates hats for more than just cowboys, we provide a lifestyle. How do you envision yourself wearing one of our hats? Whether you're a blogger, rancher, rodeo queen, or adventurer, we've got you covered.
Finding the right "Fit" is all about finding the right style and size that fits your specific needs. Do you like wearing your hat further down on your face or higher up on your head? Do you enjoy wearing your hat nice and tight like a bull rider, or do you want some wiggle room like a fashion fit?
All these questions and more can help determine which hat is right for you and your style. Not sure where to start? Learn more about this here or contact us directly.
Our hats are lighter weight, more durable, weather resistant and made to last. Light to moderate rain or snow will not destroy our felt hats. However, constant wear in heavy to severe rain or snow will cause the hat to distort and could potentially shrink over time.
We recommend letting your hat dry fully after a rain or snow storm to help preserve its original shape. Simply place your cedar or hat stretcher into the crown of the hat and let dry. If your hat becomes misshapen for any reason, send it in to our hat shop for reshaping.
For more information check our our #HATitude® 101: Hat Qualities blog. If you are still skeptical if you could wear your hat in rain or snow feel free to contact us directly, our team would love to chat with you!

We have been renovating hats since 1909. The only major change to our process was changing our solvent in the early 1940s due to government regulations.
First, the hat is evaluated and stripped down to soak in our signature petroleum-based solvent for nearly a week. Why do we use a petroleum-based solvent? Your hat is made from hair. Hair naturally has "good" oil in it that helps keep it healthy. Soaking and washing it in our solvent helps rejuvenate and restore the vital "good oils" back into each and every piece of hair your hat is made from.
After it is soaked each hat is washed by hand and then put into our antique hat spinner to remove the excess solvent. At this point, the hat may be re-washed if needed, as many times as needed. Each hat is then air-dried for several days.
After the drying process each hat is re-blocked (making the crown round again) and re-flanged (making the brim flat again). After this step, each hat is re-pounced (sanded with special paper meant to lay the nap of the hat back down in the proper direction). Next, the sweatband is sewn back in the hat with a sewing machine made just for that job. It is re-pressed and cooled again. The hat is then re-lined with a new satin liner unless otherwise requested. The hat trim is then sewn back on, by hand. The hat is then creased by hand and shipped back.
Please remember, each hat is unique, and we cannot guarantee every spot can be removed. Like a shirt, if you wear it all the time and send it in for a cleaning after hard use, not every spot will come out every time.

All our felt hats are built by hand in our Greeley, CO location. When they are finalized, whether they are custom or a stock size hat, they are left in an unshaped state, which we call Open and Flat. We do this so that we can shape each and every hat to your exact specifications.
It's very important when you order a Standard hat online to specify what shape you'd like. You can even send us a picture of a hat shape and we can shape it exactly to the picture.
There are so many possibilities when it comes to creating a custom hat. Choose between a wide range of hat shapes, colors, sweatbands, hatbands, and liners. If you'd like to design a custom hat with one of our staff, the best thing to do is visit our showroom located in Greeley, Colorado. Make an appointment with Owner Trent Johnson at any upcoming Trunk Show, Trade Show, or convention here. Can't make it in? You can visit the custom hat section of our online shop to start creating. Need more assistance? Contact our store to design a custom hat over the phone.
Yes, we can accommodate most changes up to two weeks before the estimated shipping date.
Since 1909, Greeley Hat Works has been creating and renovating fine quality headwear. Just about any kind of hat you can imagine, from traditional working cowboys' hats, to fashion-forward cutting edge hats. The things they both have in common is they are all built one at a time, by hand. When you pick up a hat built by Greeley Hat Works, you can feel the difference. It's hard to put into words what that difference is exactly. Maybe it's the finish on a hand-built felt hat, velvet soft yet firm. More than likely, it's the things that aren't that make the biggest difference. It isn't made on an assembly line with a "one-size-fits-all mentality". It's built by hand with elbow grease of a skilled hatter using tools and techniques and sorcery that have been around since the 1800s.
But it isn't just the skill of the hatter that makes a great hat, it also depends on what the hat is made from. It's like the old saying "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear". Nor can you make a great hat from poor materials. Skill and craftsmanship are important, but the integrity of the materials used is the foundation of lasting quality.
With any of the Greeley Hat Works hats you are only limited by your imagination. Your Greeley Hat Works hat is as unique as your signature, so express yourself.
Wear your #HATitude®.

All the hats you see online are in our standard sizes and are built with our standard shape, regular oval. Custom hats can be ordered in long oval or regular oval.
Picking a quality is the first step in choosing your hat. Please take a look at the difference between our qualities, what they’re made of, and comparisons of our major competitors over on our blog at the #HATitude® 101: Hat Qualities.
We don't use the X system to denote the quality of our hats because it can be misleading. However, we tell our customers that our classic quality hats are made from a fine blend of European hare and is superior to other company's 15x. Our Competitor quality hats are made from the finest quality European hare and are superior to other company's 20x. Our Beaver20 quality hats are 20% beaver and 80% fine European hare. Our Pure Beaver quality hats are 100% fine grade Beaver Belly fur.

You are allowed to wear your hat through security screenings as per the TSA's website.
Each hat purchased from Greeley Hat Works includes a card (pictured below) that you can carry with you through security when flying. The text of the card is written below for further inspection.
Download the card by clicking here.
On August 4, 2007, TSA implemented revisions to its screening procedures for head coverings. TSA does not conduct ethnic or religious profiling and employs multiple checks and balances to ensure profiling does not happen. All members of the traveling public are permitted to wear a head covering (whether religious or not) through the security checkpoints.
The new standard procedures subject all persons wearing a head covering to the possibility of additional security screening, which may include a pat-down search of the head covering. Individuals may be referred for additional screening if the security officer cannot reasonably determine that the head area is free of a detectable threat item. If the issue cannot be resolved through a pat-down search, the individual will be offered the opportunity to remove the head covering in a private screening area. TSA's security procedures, including the procedures for screening head coverings, are designed to ensure the security of the traveling public. These procedures are part of TSA's multi-layered approach to security screening.
